So it goes. It is freaking cold here. I know many of you live further up in latitude in this great northern hemisphere and, well, are kind of getting pummeled with winter weather but I still think it is freaking cold here. I am cementing in my mind that I need to move to Florida or Mexico eventually. I was designed for the tropics.
I started back to work today. L cried for 2 hours straight. She is a serious mama’s girl and I am a little freaked out by her separation anxiety. I feel it too, though. I am secretly afraid that she is going to love me less for this. That all the cortisol released from her crying is going to permanently change her brain or something. But I made the commitment and in the end it might be good for all of us. I talked to a woman who is also an adjunct that does it to supplement her income from her full time job working in conservation at the zoo. She also has two little kids and her youngest is a maniac like T. The thing is I just finished reading The Discipline Book by Dr. Sears and it made me feel a whole lot better reading the section on ‘high needs’ kids as so many of his stories of his 4th daughter remind me of T. And his whole lecture on temperment made me feel better. But anyway, me and this woman were talking and we both agreed that as animal behaviorists at heart that so much of temperament is just basic individual wiring. Her first son: mellow, her second son: maniac.
Speaking of work, I need to work on my syllabus. I may have found childcare for the girls for $10 an hour. This cuts into my profit margin but it is what it is. I hope it works out as the woman is trying to figure out her regular preschool teaching schedule to see if she can switch hours to be available. Cross your fingers for us!

You will all be fine. I know it.
And quit bitching about the weather, ya big baby!!! I’d kill for TN weather right now? Chicago… oh, how I hate it right now!

I just laughing at the schools that are calling for 2 hour delays when the temps are only supposed to be in the teens in the am. Of course, I am secretly hoping Knox. co would wuss out and call for a delay or even (gasp) a day off!!

Good luck with the child care. I’m sure everything will work out one way or another.
I’ve read many Dr. Sears books, but not that one. I’ll have to check it out.
School has been cancelled here for tomorrow just because of the ultra-low temps. Crazy.

My fav discipline book is Taking Charge by JoAnne Nordling. Her principle sort of starts when they are three though – but you could prep =;?}
