First, I just don’t get boxing. I mean why is it still socially acceptable to watch two guys beat the crap out of each other (and bet on it to boot)? But, I am thrilled that HBO is now showing Juno which I watch as I type this post.
T has been sleeping on a futon on her floor since she was about 6 mos old (sometimes alone, sometimes with me, sometimes with the handyman). I figured she was ready to get up off the floor because we were at her friend Mimi’s who just got a big girl bed and T LOVED it. Also, a couple of months ago she invented a game she played with my Aunt Tess (sob) and my mom called ‘night night’ where she would climb in big Tess’s bed at my moms and they would all pretend to sleep. Anyway, my mom gave us a little money for Christmas so I decided to use it to order T a platform bed (no head board that will come when they open a freaking IKEA store closer) for her futon and I wanted to get her some new sheets and blankets (she has our hand me downs which I sort of miss actually). We also bought ourselves a new futon and planned to give our current one to L now that she is 5 mos (she was sleeping with us until tonight and is happily snoozing on the futon on the floor of her room currently which means the handyman and I have our own bed back!). So, after breakfast we went to Target (where T slept in the freaking shopping cart which shows you how little I shop as this has never happened) and I bought some new sheets and pillows and a really cool pink soft thick blanket. I was pretty excited to get everything set up and the handyman even ran back to Target when we realized that I bought a king instead of a queen of the blanket since he could tell I was into this. We put the bed together which was fun. T helped and I was taken back to my very favorite job ever which was working in a futon store in Portland owned by a lesbian who pretty much only hired women to sell and dreadlocked boys to make the futons. I loved that job. Every job should be that fun. I washed the blankets and the sheets and we did all the futon transfers and got the bed made and……..T flipped out. She cried and cried and cried in her room and asked to go ‘bye bye’ and then ran into L’s room and jumped on the futon on the floor crying ‘T bed, T bed’ over and over. I was really a bit bummed out. So, we went to Sprout and then out for Mexican (our budget already being blown) and I was hoping the newness had worn off but she flipped again when I tried to put her to bed the first time. I tried again an hour later and she fell asleep while I was reading one of her current favorite books which is a board book on architecture (my friend works at a used bookstore and gifts us closets full of kids books lots of which are kind of odd). T calls the book ‘numbers’ and along with Olivia it is her favorite book right now (Olivia has been a bad influence because from it T thinks she should pick up the cat and carry him around). The book is really boring to me. The first picture has the number 1 and a skyscraper, the next page number 2 with some roof brackets (which when T sees she says ‘two rackets’). She now also knows the word ‘dormer’ and ‘column’ and ‘arches’ and ‘ducts’ and ‘pinnacles’ and a couple others that I can’t even remember. It is weird.
Let’s hope tomorrow goes better and that she doesn’t fall off the bed tonight!

She’ll get it. E was totally freaked out by her big girl bed even though she was so ready for it. She was in a crib so we left that set up and sometimes she’d choose bed and sometimes she’d choose crib. Now it’s BED ONLY. So it will come.

“Juno” is a great movie! I envy you getting to see it again. We did away with our satellite…sniff, sob.
T. will learn to love her new bed. The newness just freaked her out a little bit. I can sympathize with how disappointing that was for you though.
